Teaching youth and adults - effective and immediate connections with creativity

Posted by Sue Liu on

I've started to be booked to teach my innovative creativity, marine discovery, and illustration workshops in libraries. Youth librarians and educators are particularly interested because they say it's challenging to find quality experiences that engage youth (10-18yrs) in meaningful activities.

Below is a snippet from my 2-hours Observational Illustration and Marine Discovery - Australian Giant Cuttlefish workshop at Guilford Library (Cumberland City Council) this week. I have workshops at Cronulla Library and Lane Cove Library for the January school holidays.

At the beginning of each workshop, I ask everyone (adults too) if they think they will be able to draw like me (Wildcard-Sue Artist) by the end of the session. Most doubt they can. I prove to them - by giving them facts, videos, photos, stories of my experiences with animals, research, encouragement, and direction, it's possible.

100% success is the result. I somehow ignite something in children and adults to connect them with superpowers and interests they never knew they had!

I also teach a unique Ignite/reignite Your Creative Spark workshop that creates vision and planning for creative habits.

Everybody needs inspiration to help them with self-expression and creativity, which I teach in a few ways with individuals and groups of 6-20 people for 2-4 hours.

1. Youth-only classes - ages 7+ and Young Adult 12-18yrs
2. Adults-only groups
3. Intergenerational classes - where kids and adults learn side by side and everyone has space to enjoy and connect.
4. Private and small group sessions for people with special needs
